The 2021 Community Summit was a design challenge in a number of ways. Previous community summits were a series of pre-planned events, rolled out in unison and taking place within the same week. Due to COVID-19, the 2021 Community Summit was a series of online, in-person and hybrid events sharing an overall theme, spread throughout the year. Shifting restrictions on travel and gatherings, a limited number of confirmed events at launch, and the scarcity of photo assets required a design that could be shift with the constraints as well as the topics.

Monochromatic images in collage form highlighted event themes and allowed provided speaker photos to appear together in a way that looked intentional.
Map outlines and graphs from relevant studies and datasets–such as gender wage gaps and global temperature trends–subtly brought the academic into the fold.
