During the summer between first and second year of my graphic design diploma, I was hired as communications and design coordinator at Vancouver non-profit and social enterprise Our Community Bikes.
One of my major objectives for the summer would be the complete overhaul of the existing OCB website. Due to limited resources, changing hands many times and simply outliving its lifecycle, the old site had a become overgrown, convoluted and very glitchy.
To level up OCB's online presence, I created and executed a full project plan, performed a content inventory, and interviewed staff, shop patrons and volunteers to find pain points and craft the new site's information architecture. Working with the executive director, I reorganized and rewrote all site content, and obtained edits and sign-off from the board.
OCB already had a brand that had formed organically over the years, and this became the starting point for the website's look and feel. Visually, I wanted to bring the experience of visiting the shop into the online space; excitement, connection and a healthy amount of grit.
A brand new rotation of original photos centered OCB's highly engaged community and range of programs and services. These were captured during the summer or were sourced from the archives of longstanding community members.
